A lawyer volunteers to defend 5 accused in Delhi gangrape case
ML Sharma, a lawyer, said the families of the accused men had approached him to defend them. The police has said it has forensic evidence to establish their guilt. The defendants could face the death penalty if convicted.
The Saket Bar Association had said none of its members would defend the man accused of the crime that united India in anger and grief, corroborated by large protests in cities like Delhi.
There was drama in the South Delhi court today where the five men accused of raping and murdering a physiotherapy student on a bus in Delhi were brought in a large police van.
The men had arrived at the court complex but had not been brought into the court-room when lawyers started shouting against an advocate who volunteered to defend them.
