HPU Fee hike protest: 2,000 college and 530 HPU student
SHIMLA: Police have registered cases against about 2,000 students of 120 colleges and 530 students of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) alone for protesting against fee hike in the last one month.
HPU professor Rajinder Singh Chauhan said the authorities have formed a committee which would listen to the demands of booked students. “We cannot do anything about those who have been booked,” he said. Students said many of them have become victims of false cases. Master of tourism administration student Kushal Kaundal said, “I was just supporting the students’ protest. Though I took part in no criminal activity, a case has been registered against me. The case will ruin my career. I will not be able to go abroad. First, the authorities burdened students with fee hike, then they imposed Section 144 on the campus and now they are spoiling our future by booking us.”
