Private universities still continue to defy norms, UGC sleeps
The University Grants Commission (UGC) seems to be unconcerned about enforcing its regulations pertaining to establishment and operation of private universities. So far, it has conducted inspections of only five out of 16 private universities in the state.
Most of the private universities have not even been inspected and assessed by the UGC and these are already awarding graduate, postgraduate and other degrees. This is the main reason that these institutions have been violating norms and granting admissions to ineligible candidates, including matriculates, even though these are mandated to admit students only after Plus II as per the State Private Universities Act and the UGC norms.
