Save Trees: How vines (Climbers) killing trees in Shimla while Forest Department turn a blind eye to them (Video)

SHIMLA- Did you know that harmless looking vines climb the trees, snatch their food, obstruct their exposure to sunlight, leaving them dry if not removed timely?

Although, Forest Department receives special funds for their removal, but nothing is actually accomplished.

Last Sunday, HW team spent the day removing harmful vines from a couple of Deodar trees in Shimla. HW had raised the critical issue regarding the damage that the vines (Climbers) are causing to Deodar and other trees around Shimla.

Here is what HW observed while its members remove the climbers from a couple of trees in Shimla ( VIDEO):

These vines are strangling the trees all over Shimla and eventually, either killing the trees or hindering their proper growth. These vines are either parasitic in nature or they compete with the trees for nutrients, water, and sunlight. In many cases the overgrowth of the vines shroud the tree leaves, depriving them of sunlight. Absence of sunlight means no photosynthesis or a week photosynthesis process.

While the forest department is completely ignorant towards the issue, the common men aren’t aware of the lethal effects of not removing them. Forest department regularly receives funds for climber cutting and pruning of the trees, but the money is spent somewhere else; perhaps, in the gardens of MLAs or officials occupying higher positions in the department. Therefore, HW decided to record a demonstration for the awareness of the public, and to seek the attention of the forest department towards the issue.
