Himachal gets national award for MNREGA implementation


Himachal Pradesh today received the national award for implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA).

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh presented MNREGA national award to Mandi Deputy Commissioner Devesh Kumar in Delhi for maximum participation of women in MNREGA, an official said.

About 75 per cent of the work under the MNREGA in Mandi district was executed through women as against the national average of 48 per cent in the country, he said.

The Tharech Panchayat in Theog Block of Shimla district was also presented the national award for gram panchayats.
An amount of Rs 75 crore was directly transferred to bank accounts of women MNREGA workers.


Shimla: Sarojini Ganju Thakur, Chairperson, Himachal Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission, said the state government is taking effective steps for providing quality, vocational education for generating employment and self-employment avenues for the youth on a larger scale.

Presiding over an introductory workshop on National Vocational Education Qualification Framework here, she said the steps are being taken as there is a huge demand of skilled professionals in various sectors.

Shimla: In an effort to boost the industrial sector in the state, the Himachal government will invite entrepreneurs from other states as well from abroad to set up industrial units here.

Environment friendly industries based on local material and labour intensive units will be permitted in the state to ensure employment generation and growth without any harmful impact on environment, an official spokesman said here. —-

Shimla: Himachal Industries minister Mukesh Agnihotri said man made problems are the biggest threat to environment and a comprehensive environment and development policy is essential to protect environment.

Inaugurating a day-long workshop on environment, he said “a comprehensive industrial policy 2013 will be announced soon with detailed guidelines on the steps taken with special reference to the conservation of environmental aspect at every step.”
