Regional Exchange Programme on Urban Sanitation and Waste Management Solutions for the Himalayan Region in Shimla
We have the pleasure to announce the Regional Exchange Programme on Urban Sanitation and Waste Management Solutions for the Himalayan Region to take place from March 4-8, 2013 in and around Shimla. The seminar is organized by GIZ – GesellschaftfürInternationaleZusammenarbeit GmbH under the programme“Support to the National Urban Sanitation Policy (SNUSP) and the“Indo-German Environment Partnership Programme” (IGEP) in association with Municipal Corporation Shimla, financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The objective of the Regional Exchange Programme is to enable a regional dialogue between sanitation and solid waste experts in the Himalayan region in order to enhance the local capacities in these areas. With the achievements of Shimla in the Door to Door Garbage collection, waste water and sanitation field, including the development of a City Sanitation Plan, the installment of several waste water treatment plants and the commissioning of a solid waste treatment facility, the city and its surroundings offer various opportunities for the participants of the Regional Exchange Programme to learn from the experiences made and to discuss related approaches and practices. In order to facilitate the regional dialogue and mutual learning, the programme will combine in-door workshop sessions with field visits and in-situ studies.
The Regional Exchange Programme thereby targets decision makers from the local, state and central level with a specific focus on the Himalayan region, as well as practitioners and experts engaged in the sanitation and solid waste management sector. Participants will come from India and Nepal and being accompanied by GIZ experts.
