HP govt encourages ‘ahatas'(drinking places) in villages to increase revenue
Opening ‘ahatas’ would help checking illegal consumption of liquor in the wayside eateries and would increase revenue from excise duty
Shimla-The Himachal Pradesh government Thursday allowed opening of “ahatas (designated drinking places)” in villages to increase its revenue.
The cabinet, at its meeting presided over by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, granted approval to open ‘ahatas’ in rural areas across the state, a government spokesperson told IANS here.
He said the purpose to operate ‘ahatas’ in rural areas is to check illegal consumption of liquor in the wayside eateries and to increase revenue from excise duty.
In the hill state, more than 80 percent of the population lives in rural areas.IANS
