Dead body of forest guard found hanging from tree in Mandi, police suspects hand of forest mafia
MANDI- Dead body of a 22-years-old forest guard, who was missing from last five days, was found hanging upside down from a tree in a forest in Seri Katanda (सेरी कतांडा) under Karsog Forest Division, Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. The guard has been identified as Hoshiyaar Singh. Severe injuries were spotted on both wrists of the dead body which suggested he was murdered. The relatives and police suspect hand of forest mafia behind this alleged murder.
The police has been searching for the guard after he was reported missing since Monday. The police and about 250 villagers had even launched a search operation to find the missing man. On Friday morning, while grazing goats in Garguj (गरजुग) jungle, a villager spotted a shirt and the dead body hanging from a deodar tree. The villager informed others and also reported it to the police.
Police had registered a missing complaint three days ago and was still searching for the guard. Now, police has registered a case of suspected murder. A team of Forensic Science Laboratory, Mandi, also arrived at the spot soon and took the body for further investigation regarding actual cause of death. The Deputy Superintendent Police, Sundernagar, Sanjiv Bhatia was also present at the spot.
Assistant Superintendent Police, Bhaum Prakash is heading the investigation.
The villagers and relatives of the deceased forest guard said he was an honest man, who was against illegal axing of trees, and that recently he had even caught a vehicle carrying wood. It was after this case that the guard had disappeared, said a Hindi daily. Villagers also suggested frequent illegal felling of trees by mafia and said that partly-hidden stumps of fallen trees are clearly visible all over the jungle.
More details are awaited as police is yet to receive the lab report.
