Kotkhai Case: CBI re-examining body of accused killed in police custody
Shimla – The Central Bureau of Investigation today morning reached Indira Gandhi Medical College to re-examine the body of Suraj Singh, one of the Nepalese accused allegedly killed in police custody by a co-accused on the night of July 18. The sources said CBI has called doctors from AIIMS to conduct the post-mortem of the body again as part of its investigation.
As per sources, the police officials along with CBI were seen carrying the body for re-examination at the IGMC, Shimla. The post-mortem report is expected to unfold mystery surrounding the killing of accused.
The earlier post-mortem report released by the local police had claimed that the accused had died after his head was allegedly smashed against the floor by Raju, another accused. The custodial death of the accused had sparked riots in Kotkhai where the local police station was vandalized and set on fire by an angry mob on July 20.
CBI had registered two cases in the Kotkhai row on July 23 to start the investigation. The agency will be investigation the rape and murder of the minor girl as well as the custodial death of the accused.
As per sources, CBI has formed separate teams to visit the spot, conduct investigation in the custodial death of the Nepalese accused, and study all investigation reports prepared by the Special Investigation Team of HP Police. Sources also said the CBI has pooled in its own forensic team.
In upcoming days, CBI is expected to question several key suspects as well accused in relation to the case. Statements of the family and relatives of the victim girl as well as the killed accused are likely to be recorded.
CBI has been asked by the State High Court to submit an interim report in the case within two weeks.
