All india Police Congress

Shimla: The 46th All India Police Congress organized by the Himachal Pradesh Police Department and the Bureau of Police Research and Development begun today.

The theme revolves around the need of the hour to think out of the box to enhance police functioning and maximize use of technology in day-to-day police functioning.

Social media has revolutionized mass communication and the law enforcing agencies can no longer ignore its potential in various policing functions. At the same time, Social Media can prove very useful to bridge the gap between the police and public.

The Police need to keep up with the advancement in technologies and their use in execution of various crimes. For instance, the police is almost at zero in terms of understanding concepts like crypto-currency (virtual currency). Further, the cyber crimes or investigation in crimes related to social media or Internet are likely to remain in the spotlight at the conference.

The Education and Law Minister, Suresh Bhardwaj and Senior Police officers from different states are attending the conference. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur presided over the first day of the two-day conference.

State Government is trying to ensure optimum use of modern technology for ensuring effective maintenance of the law and order. State Police Department has been adjudged as the best State in the implementation of CCTNS Project, the CM said.

The drug abuse, particularly by the younger generation is another area of concern. He said that although seizure of drugs is a way to curb the supply of drugs, the best way to check this social vice was to end it from where it begins – the cultivation of such crops. Destruction of illicit crops such as cannabis, opium poppy etc. should be the main strategies to cut down the supply of such drugs, he said.

Director General of HP Police, S.R. Mardi, Director General of BRP and D A.P, Maheshwari, ADGP Law and Order, Anurag Garg were also present at the conference.
