HP plans more advanced storehouses for fruit produce

SHIMLA: Fruit growers in Himachal Pradesh won’t need to worry about selling their produce at cheap rates during glut in the market as the state government is planning more compressed atmospheric storehouses, which would keep safe the extra produce for long durations. HP Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation (HPMC) has now decided to create the required infrastructure that would help the farmers not to safely store their producer when market conditions are not conducive.

HPMC has now decided to convert its existing cold stores located at Rohru and Oddi in Shimla district and Patlikuhl in Kullu district into controlled atmosphere stores before the onset of apple season in 2015. The corporation is all set to commission modern apple pack house at Reckong Peo in Kinnaur district which would be made functional before the onset of next apple season. ~ TNN
