HPPWD failed to connect 1093 eligible habitations under PMGYS to roads, upto Rs 314.44 crore remained unutilized

SHIMLA- The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has pulled up the Public Works Department for incurring “unfruitful” expenditure due to delay in execution of works under Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and not meeting the target of connecting all habitations with population of 250 or more by road. The report said that in the absence of a long-term master plan with clear milestones and timeliness for providing all-weather roads to all the habitations with population of 250 or more could not be achieved and 1093 eligible habitations under the programme remained unconnected by road. The available funds under the programme during 2010-14 ranging between Rs 99.78 crore and Rs 314.44 crore remained unutilized which indicated lack of financial control, the report said.
