Renuka Dam water and power supply hit by paucity of fund

NAHAN – The proposed Renuka Dam project on river Giri — a tributary of Yamuna in Himachal Pradesh — hit a major roadblock due to paucity of funds. The dam is expected to provide water and power supplies in parts of Haryana, especially Gurgaon. For the Haryana government, this seems to be a major cause of concern. In a latest meeting called by the commission in New Delhi, the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) apprised the authority of the logjam. The Renuka Dam project is being executed by HPPCL and this project has a live storage capacity of 0.567 billion cubic meters (BCM), with a power capacity of 40 MW. It is worth noticing that UYRB states such as Uttar Pradesh, HP, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi had signed a MoU regarding allocation of surface water and power in 1994. ~ HT
