Shot by constable, one dead, 2 injured in Shimla
Group of men tying to hack into the impound yard of Shimla police near Tara Dev said to have messed up with the police while trying to steal an impounded car, leading to firing in which one person died and two others were injured.
The peaceful Shimla today witnessed a buzz over the death caused by police shooting yesterday night. As per the sources, after midnight yesterday, a group of men broke into the yard near Tara Devi where police keeps impounded vehicles. Police says, they were trying to steal an impounded car, but were spotted by the patrolling police men, whom they said have to have attacked on being enquired. The constable fired a warning shot in air right after that one of the men tried to grab the gun from the constable in which a bullet got fired killing one man. Two others were also injured in the same action. Constable Ranbir, said that they fired the bullet completely with an intention of self-defense when they were attacked by three men. Ranvir fired in the air, but then forced him to shoot at boys legs, which missed the intended aim as the boy ducked and the bullet hit him in the abdomen.
The deceased has been identified as Uday Singh Panwar, while the injured have been identified as Harsh Sharma, a resident of Chakkar and Nitin Kumar, a resident of Sagli.However, some locals protested against the police in front of Boileauganj police station saying that the firing was unprovoked. The police lathicharged the crowd to disperse in which a couple of people received injuries and were referred to IGMC for treatment.
The parents of the Uday and many locals alleged that a few local people from the market, who tried to esquire the officials peacefully, were dragged inside the police station and given a beat without any justified reason. They also alleged that the police did not bother to inform boy’s parents at the time he died, but only informed the next day. The atmosphere grew quiet tense as some political elements joined the protest.The whole Boiluaganj market got crowded until Congress leader Harish Janartha and other police officials approached the police station and ensured justice after talking to the police officials.
A case has been registered against the two policemen under Section 304, IPC, and a counter case against the three youths under Sections 307, 353, 332, 579 and 511, IPC.
