Shimla City Sanitation Plan Approved by the Government of Himachal Pradesh
The state Government has recently approved the City Sanitation Plan of Shimla city and to make it a successful plan the Municipal Corporation Shimla has initiated its attempts.
“City Sanitation Plan of Shimla city has been recently approved by Government of Himachal Pradesh and Municipal Corporation Shimla has initiated attempts for its successful implementation. MC Shimla is going to conduct a refresher training programme for plumbers registered with the Corporation to address household level connectivity problems in Shimla City. City Sanitation Plan has highlighted that sewerage system in Shimla city has missing links and all STPs are presently underutilized of its capacities. This problem has been well addressed and GoI has already provided funds under JNNURM to rejuvenate the sewerage system of Shimla City. The proposed training programme will help in reducing the capacity gaps associated with sanitation related plumbing issues and will also facilitate the upcoming projects on sewerage rehabilitation and household level connectivity improvements.
Based on the assessment of current plumbing practices, existing trainings and site conditions, a new training manual for plumbers focusing more on the sanitation aspects has been developed by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The test run of this manual is scheduled from 19-21st June, 2013 in Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Shimla with technical and financial support from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. Certificates will also be issued to municipal plumbers on behalf of MC Shimla, GIZ and ITI Shimla . After successful completion of this test–run training, MC Shimla has planned to share this new training module with Department of Technical Education, Vocational & Industrial Training to upscale this plumbers training module in the state through integrating it into the mainstream trainings of ITI’s as a part of on-going plumbing courses.”
