CM urges people to use public transport to save energy
The Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said that we should maximize the use of Public transport so that the use of individual vehicles could be minimised thereby restricting the use of petroleum and other non-renewal sources of energy which would not only save the public money but would also help in preservation of environment.
He said this while flagging off a rally of School Children with placards and slogans in their hands containing message of saving energy, at Oak over here today.
He said that to save energy the Government was giving incentives for installation of Solar Geysers and Solar Cookers, adding that the State Government has framed the ‘Solar Power Policy’ so that maximum solar energy be harnessed.
“ Students can play an important role in spreading awareness about conservation of Solar Energy and the State Government endeavours to fulfil the increasing demand of power by means of other renewal sources”, said he.
He said that time has come when we should realise that saving every unit of electricity will help the State and Nation prosper and will be helpful in generating revenue for the State.
He said that we are committed to harness the natural sources of energy so that the use of hydro carbon energy could be minimised thereby conserving the environment.
The State Government has installed as many as 28 thousand Solar Street lights in different parts of the State while about 10 thousand Solar Lamps were provided to the flood affected people of district Kinnaur free of cost.
The Government has reserved power projects upto 2 MW capacity for the people of the State and priority has been given to them for allotting power projects upto 5 MW.
The Chief Minister appealed to the school children and youth to maximise the use of Solar energy at home so that the energy saved could be utilised for the development of the Nation.
Forest Minister, Thakur Singh Bharmouri, Additional Chief Secretary V.C. Pharka, Principal Secretary Power, SKBS Negi, CEO HIMURJA Kanwar Bhanu Pratap Singh, State Director WWF India Ms Arti, officiating director KL Thakur were also present on the occasion amongst others.
