Law College students allegedly brutalized by Hon’ble Chief Justice’s security, then forced to compromise
SHIMLA- Today, over 300 students of University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) gathered outside the gate of the collage near Chaura Maidan to protest against the alleged brutality by the security personals of Chief Justice. The victims, Sahil Thakur, VII semester student, Rujhan Soni, V semester, and Gurkit Singh Kajla, VII semester, alleged that they were stopped by the security while going to a Dhaba, which is about about 200-300 meters from their college.
The victim, Sahil Thakur was stopped by the security for not wearing helmet. However, instead of reporting to police station, they started slapping him. When, Rujhan Soni intervened, he was beaten too. However, when the policemen didn’t stop beating them, one of the students tried to capture the incident via his mobile. The men went after him and allegedly dragged him to Boileauganj Police Station, where he was brutally tortured to gain the password of his mobile in which he had recorded the video. After unbearable torture, they gained the password and deleted the video. Gurkit alleged that his mobile phone was also smashed. The policemen then forced him to compromise before realizing him.
As usual, the police ignored the students who wanted to register a complaint. No FIR was lodged. Rather, police claimed to have investigated the matter in which they accuse the students of being drunk. The police also claimed that the students clashed with each other, not with the police.
This isn’t the first time, security men of high rank officials are accused of atrocities. Earlier, a personal security guard of a HP government minister had shot a youth with his service pistol at the HHH for parking.
After, the students weren’t heard anywhere, they created a Facebook page and posted a message on it, which said,
!!!!!WE WANT YOUR SUPPORT UILS FOR TACKLING INJUSTICE!!!!!
A student of UILS named Sahil Thakur of VIIth semester headed towards a dhaba located at a small distance to the right of chaura maidan on his bike, where he was stopped by a few policeman dressed in civil clothing who were members of the home security of the Hon’ble Chief Justice, whereby they asked him for his helmet to which he replied by saying that he had the helmet but he had left the same in the college and that they may impose a fine/chalan for his negligence. Thereafter the cops who had no authority in relation to this negligence slapped and abused him. Rujhan Soni of Vth semester who was standing nearby intervened and as he mentioned his disappointment regarding the act he was also slapped by the same cops. Then another student named Gurkrit Singh Kajla of VIIth semester entered into the scenario and tried to intervene but was pushed aside by the cops. As a last resort he tried to video capture the acts of the cops which further spiked their fury and they went after him. They got hold of him and hit him severely with their battens and butt stocks. Soon some teachers from the college came and tried to stop the nuisance caused by the cops over which the cops abused them as well and threatened one of them to be taken along. They then took Gurkrit to Boileuganj police station where he was brutally beaten once again in the lock up. Then he was asked to reveal his phone’s password as he had locked his phone before hand on his refusal they smashed the phone and after physically assaulting him for a long time they made him reveal the password and later deleted the video from the phone. They also coerced him into a compromise and only after the forceful compromise was he released.
The issue that arises before us is that firstly the students are brutally beaten up unnecessarily and lastly a forceful compromise is done.
IS IT A DEMOCRACY? IF YES THEN OF WHAT KIND!
THE PROTECTORS OF THE NATION HAVE NOW TURNED INTO GOONS CREATING A “GUNDARAJ” AND WE PROTEST AND ASK FOR YOUR SUPPORT AGAINST THE SAME !!
“INJUSTICE ANYWHERE IS A THREAT TO JUSTICE EVERYWHERE”
