What should be priority for HP Govt; Free Wi-Fi or environment and public health?
For over a year, Himachal Watcher has been writing to the Transport Minister GS Bali regarding the unchecked emissions from HRTC and private buses. We had published images and videos on HW and had forwarded to him with complaint. Transport Minister had assured that action will be taken to check plying of such buses, however, nothing has changed and those buses are still running on Himachal Roads. Shimla is hit hardest as number of vehicles has risen in last few years. Despite repeated complaints, Shimla did not get any relief from vehicular pollution. But the minister has announced providing free Wi-Fi at 19 bus stands. We wonder why Wi-Fi facility is a priority over environment and public health.
Demand for Internet facilities has increased in Himachal Pradesh and the government must attend to it. We are not against providing free Wi-Fi, however, it should keep in mind what should be attended first.
The Pollution Control Board of Himachal is nowhere to be seen despite complaints and Shimla Traffic Police also deny taking any responsibility to deal with polluting vehicles. The Chief Minister is too busy in his personal affairs to attend to such issues. So, who is supposed to check vehicular pollution in Himachal?
