SHIMLA- Two men were killed and another was injured when a tree fell over the tent they were sleeping in at a government-run nature camp in Narkanda, 65 kilometres from Shimla in the wee hours of Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Ashok Sidhu, 45, and Rajesh Kumar, 36, who died on the spot. The injured, Gagan, was referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla.

The three were part of an eight-member team of Punjab education department ministerial staff who were on a personal trip to the nature camp run by Himachal Pradesh Forest Development Corp Ltd.

Tourists have also been cautioned against venturing into dense forest areas as there are chances of trees falling.

Dev Dutt Sharma, Special Secretary of Disaster Management wing, said that a meeting of public works department, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has been summoned on June 14 to review disaster preparedness. The Deputy Commissioners in the districts with heavy tourist influx have been specially asked to review disaster management preparedness.
