‘Muskaan Yojna’ launched in Himachal, Panchayats with low sex ratio to be put under red alert
The Gram Panchayat with low sex ratio would be identified and included in the red alert Panchayats and awareness through counseling of newly wedded couples.
SHIMLA– Himachal Pradesh Government yesterday launched the ‘Muskaan Yojna’ under an initiative by Social Justice and Empowerment Department to save the girl child. As per government, the scheme is launched in order to overcome the issue of female foeticide and low sex ratio in seven districts of the State viz. Chamba, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahaul & Spiti, Shimla, Sirmour and Solan.
Mothers of new born girl child were honoured and presented them gifts on the occasion. Emphasis was laid upon the importance of improving the sex ratio and create awareness in the society regarding improving the birth rate and understanding the importance of the girl child.
The Government claimed that it has launched intensive campaign in the State through Anganwari workers to improve the sex ratio. Also, registration of pregnancies in these districts in tenth week of pregnancy is made mandatory. The Anganwari workers will have to ensure that the pregnancies are registered not only in their respective centres but also in the health sub centres in that particular village, informed Director, Social Justice and Empowerment, Smt. Mansi Sahai.

In addition to this, ‘Gudda-Guddi’ boards containing information of new born girl child and the figure of girls in the district would be displayed, she briefed.
The multiple agencies like Health, Education, Revenue, Rural Development etc. would be involved for sensitizing the people with the help of district administration. Besides, the mothers of new born girl child would be honoured the State Government.
