Sirmaur Hatti Community meets PM Modi, Reminds BJP of its promise of speedy justice to 2.5 lakh Trans-Giri population during 2014 election rally

SHIMLA- To remind Bhartiya Janta Party of a promise made by Rajnath Singh during an elections rally in 2014, a delegations of elected representatives of Sirmaur District comprising community leaders of Hatti community , MLAs of concerned areas , Panchayat Raj Institutions representatives met Union Tribal Development Ministry over their long pending demand of tribal status for entire Trans – Giri region of Sirmaur District.

It is noticeable that survey reports have repeatedly recommended granting of tribal status to area on the pattern of Jaunsar-Bawar area of adjoining Uttrakand state. Both region shared same lifestyle, culture and traditions but the later was granted tribal status when it was shifted to Uttar Pradesh in 1967 but Trans Giri area was not ranted the tribal status despite facts favouring it. The Trans Giri and Jaunsar Babar area both remained part of earstwhile Sirmour Kingdom and both areas have unique similarity in all aspects and needs to be treated at par in all spheres.

However, despite similarity in topography, geography, social, cultural and other similarities in customs , traditions and life style of local populations with their neighbour in Uttrakand state, Sirmaur’s Trans Giri area never received tribal status. The region still practices ancient traditions and culture that are different from rest of country.

The state govt has already recommended the declaration of around 2.5 lakh population of entire Hatti Community in entire Trans Giri as Tribal Area. The Hatti Community of sirmaur district that has 127 panchayats in Rajgarh, Shillai, Sangrah, Kamrau and Paonta Sahib area fulfills all eligibility conditions laid down by Lokur Committee for declaring the area as Scheduled Tribe area as Hatti community lead a separate and excluded existence and are not fully assimilated into modern mainstream society due to tough geographical and topographical conditions and limited avenues of employments due to lack of modern educational facilities in the area.

MP Virender Kashyap Shimla, who was leading the delegation, told that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh during his election campaign in Nahan in Sirmour District during parliamentary election in year 2014 had assured Hatti Community that BJP Led govt will provide justice to them and pave way for their speedy development

MP Virender Kashyap Shimla said that this case has been repeatedly raised in parliament and various other forms and constitutional bodies for speedy justice to the people of Trans Giri Areas so as the area could be developed at par with other areas and local youths could get reservations under Tribal category and the budgetary provisions available under Tribal Sub Plan and other central govt schemes could be provided to local area for overall development and integrate the area with rest of world for emotional integrations.

Assurance from Union Tribal Development

Union Tribal Development Minister Jual ORam assured Hatti community of Sirmaur District that it will take positive and time bound steps to meet their long pending demand of providing tribal status to the community to integrate them with mainstream society and pave way for their speedy economical and social development through various upliftment programmes of central govt ministries and state govts.
