Amb Fire-Breakout: Over 80 huts of migrant laborers turned to ashes in just 15 minutes

SHIMLA- A devastating fire-breakout gutted more than 80 ‘jhuggi’ (huts) in a colony of migrant laborers in Kalruhi, Amb in district Una of Himachal Pradesh. Within 15 minutes, entire colony turned to ashes. No loss of human life was reported, but all the belongings of laborers including cloths, bedding, and jewelry were lost.


As per the district administration, the initial estimate of loss has been assessed at approximately Rs. 10 lakh. However, accurate estimate is still to be calculated.

The exact cause of the fire is not known yet. As per sources, some children of laborers, who were playing near to the colony, saw flames rising from one of the huts. On their call, hundreds of laborers rushed to the spot and tried to control the fire. However, they failed to extinguish it. Fire-brigade was also failed by fast winds that made the fire even worse.

The laborers couldn’t do anything except weeping as they are now shelter-less. The administration has arranged a temporary stay for these people at the Kalruhi temple and two charitable inns. The administration assured that edibles and clothing are being arranged through Chintpurni temple trust.
