Suspected food poisoning at Jaypee University Waknaghat, over 150 students hospitalized

SHIMLA– Suspected food poising at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT) in Waknaghat, Solan, Himachal Pradesh, caused serious trouble when as many as 150 students had to be hospitalized on Thursday night. The students were rushed to Indira Gandhi Medical College & Hospital (IGMC), Shimla in two university buses. Some students were also taken to Kandaghat hospital in Solan for treatment. Five students were in critical condition. As per sources, after primary treatment, most of the students had recovered except those who were critical.

As per reports, one by one, students at JUIT started complaining of abdominal pain, weakness, and restlessness. Within no time, the number of such cases rose to over three dozens. The doctors who treated the students and the Senior Medical Superintendent Ramesh Chand cited food poisoning as the possible explanation behind the incident. Fortunately, most of the students are stable now.

However, it’s not clear whether the food was poisoned intentionally or there were other reasons behind it like carelessness of the cooks, contamination of or use of substandard/expired food ingredients. So far, the varsity has not issued any statement regarding any probe into this grieve matter to find out actual cause behind food poisoning.
