Watch: How (where) to play cricket in Shimla
It encourages children to remain confined to indoor recreational resources like electronics. Secondly, drug abuse enters into scene as recreational activity as it requires space that is exactly opposite to playground.
SHIMLA- It did happen exactly as shown in the compiled video. It took more time to travel and find a place to play than actually playing. This short video was recorded for the purpose of personal use and to share with friends only. But, we realized, this video would aptly complement the recent docu-drama “SOS-Shivaji Park of Shimla” by filmmaker Vivek Mohan through which he tried to highlight complete lack of playgrounds and public parks in Shimla.
The children in Shimla town don’t have much on the name of playgrounds or public parks. The government focused only on concrete masonry and forgot about this sensitive matter pertaining to quality of life of public. There is another critical aspect related to the lack of outdoor recreational spaces. It encourages children to remain confined to indoor recreational resources like electronics. Secondly, drug abuse enters into scene as recreational activity as it requires space that is exactly opposite to playground.
Surprisingly, no politician or even ward councilors ever considered this requirement for recreational space relevant. If multistory mega complexes can be built in hills, then providing playgrounds and public parks shouldn’t be so difficult for the government. So, it does make sense to raise this very genuine demand, which is an essential aspect if the quality of life is considered to be the ultimate goal of development. In other words, what’s the point of development if it can’t provide quality of life.
To further highlight the issue and wake up the parents and public about this issue, Mr. Vivek also planned an event on May 12, 2017 in Shimla. You can find all the details regarding the event at the end of the video. You can join the event here.
Let’s see whether this issue make into this year’s election manifestos of parties in Himachal or not.
