Kotkhai Probe: CBI gets 2 more weeks from court, all eyes on lie detection test
Shimla: The Central Bureau of Investigation on September 5, 2017, filed its third status report in the Himachal Pradesh High Court relating to the probe in Kotkhai gangrape and murder case.
The court expressed its displeasure over the delay in the investigation as CBI has already spent six weeks. As expected, the CBI asked for more time and pleaded that some crucial lab reports are still awaited. The court granted two more weeks to CBI to submit the final report. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for 21 September.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for 21 September.
As per sources, the court also pulled up the CBI over the leak of information to media.
Agency has also received permission to conduct polygraph test on the accused policemen. After obtaining orders for extension of remand on September 4, the eight arrested police officials including then Inspector General of Police, Zahur H Zaidi, were again taken back to Delhi headquarters.
Though the official sources did not confirm it, CBI is expected to conduct the lie detection test on Wednesday, before the expiry of the 3-day remand on September 7.
The CBI had already rejected the theory of local police regarding the murder of Suraj Singh, a Nepalese accused, by a co-accused Raju in police lockup following a scuffle.
Sources suggest the CBI has solid evidences to prove the role of local police in the custodial death of the accused. In court, the agency assured submission of a chargsheet against the accused police officials very soon.
However, in the rape and murder of the minor girl, the agency appears to be empty handed after none of the DNA samples taken from all accused and some suspects did not match with the samples taken from the crime scene.
After the results were reported negative, the state forensic lab, located at Junga, also came under CBI scanner.
So, the agency appears to be mostly dependent on lie detection or narco analysis test to solve the mystery of the rape and murder.
Entire Himachal is waiting for justice for the minor girl or Gudiya since last six weeks after the case was handed over to the CBI. The arrest of police officials had again sparked protests in Himachal. The alleged involvement of an IGP rank official compelled the public to believe there is a hand of some highly influential person or politicians.
