Himachal to get Cradle Baby Reception Centres for abandoned children

To prevent the families or parents from abandoning the child in unsafe and unhygienic conditions, the Centre will also receive children from those who do not wish to reveal their identity.

Shimla: The Directorate of Women and Child Development said that it has decided to set up Cradle Baby Reception Centres (CBRC) at various health institutes across the state for abandoned children, who are either rescued or are safely abandoned by the families or the biological parents, informed a spokesperson.

The CBRCs will be set up as per the provision of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. These Centres will be set up at Zonal/Regional Hospitals, CHCs, Nursing Homes and the District Child Protection Units.

These Centres will receive the abandoned and vulnerable children and look after them till they are given in adoption.

These CBRCs will enable safe abandonment of children by the families or biological parents, who do not wish to produce the child before Child Welfare Committee for relinquishing the children.

To prevent the families or parents from abandoning the child in unsafe and unhygienic conditions, the Centre will also receive children from those who do not wish to reveal their identity.

The maintenance of these Centres will be under the supervision of the officer-in-charge of the respective Department.

Every time, a Centre receives or rescues an abandoned child, it will inform the concerned CWC immediately as well as the Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA).

The spokesperson said that four CBRCs have already been set up by the Directorate at New Special Ward on 4th floor Kamla Nehru Hospital Shimla, emergency OPD Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital Shimla, Room No. 119at district Hospital Recong-Peo District Kinnaur, Room No. 532 A Block E District Hospital Solan.

These Centres are functional in Room No. 600 District Hospital Mandi since December 2016.
