Rohru fire victims to get relief

Shimla: The affected families of Kashaini village in Rohru Sub Division of Shimla district who lost their houses in the devastating fire that broke out on Tuesday night will be given Rs. 2.5 lakhs for construction of houses.

The victims will be provided timber through TD and, if required, the Forest Corporation will provide more timber on subsidised rates.

Further, the government will construct a road upto the village, the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur announced on Thursday during his visit to the village.

The Irrigation and Public Health Department has been asked to take effective steps at the earliest for augmentation of drinking water supply scheme to the village.

Earlier, the district administration had provided Rs. 10,000 to each victim as immediate relief besides providing a community kitchen. The Chief Minister said the government would also make efforts to stop recovery of loans from the victims for a time period of one year.

In case an affected family had a marriage of girl scheduled during coming days, the state government will provide financial assistance for it too, he said.

The government will identify a suitable location for construction of houses at Kashaini.

However, if fire affected families insist to reconstruct their houses at the same place, the government will make provision of a road up to this village, the Chief Minister said.

He urged the social organisations to come forward for the help of these families.
The said village was devastated by the fire, which gutted about 40 houses and rendered over 50 families homeless within a few hours.

The residents could only save their children and cattle while they had to watch their house turning to ashes in front of their eyes.

However, the Chief Minister did not speak about the alleged carelessness of the Fire Department. The local had alleged that empty fire tender was sent to the spot, which caused a delay in rescue work.
