UHF Nauni’s 9th Convocation presided over by President, 462 students conferred degrees

9th Convocation of the UHF Nauni

Solan: The ninth Convocation of Dr Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry at Nauni in district Solan was held today and was presided over by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind.

This was the second instance when the President of India attended the convocation of the University. Former President R Venkataraman was the chief guest at the first convocation of the university held in the year 1988.

The University was founded in the year 1985 with the objective to promote education, research and extension education in the fields of Horticulture, Forestry and allied disciplines

The President presented Gold Medals to meritorious students on the occasion. He presented gold medals to Rajesh Kanwar, Bharti, Neha Verma, Ankita, Chirag Bhatia, Kritika Sharma, Priyanka Chauhan, and Manvi Sharma.

He also presented SP Dhull Gold Medal to Ankita. He congratulated all the students receiving gold medals and degrees on the occasion.

Apart from the gold medals, degrees were also awarded to 462 students of B Sc, M Sc in Horticulture, Forestry and Biotech programmes from the College of Horticulture, College of Forestry and College of Horticulture and Forestry, Neri, MBA and PhD programmes

Addressing the graduating students, the President said that the goal of their education should not be limited to simply getting a job. They can start their own enterprises by using their skills and learning.

There is immense potential in the field of fruit and vegetable processing. With their knowledge and enterprise, graduates of the University could help consumers in the country and abroad get better food products and help farmers get better value for their produce.

He urged the students to take advantage of various schemes and initiatives of the Union and state governments to set up their businesses in the agriculture sector.

The Governor awarded degrees to the students on the occasion. He said that since this University was the first Horticulture University of the country and the only horticulture university of the State, therefore the horticulturists have great expectations from the University.

He stressed on better coordination between the scientists and farmers so that the State could earn a special name in the production of fruits, vegetables, flowers and medicinal plants.

Further, the Chief Minister informed that the State Government was promoting Zero Budget Natural Farming. For this, the Government has made a budget provision of Rs 25 crore for the current financial year to promote natural farming.

He also congratulated the University for being adjudged amongst the best 100 Universities for continuous best performance in a survey conducted by the Government of India.

Vice Chancellor of the University Dr H.C. Sharma welcomed the President and other dignitaries and also read out the annual report on the occasion.

Deputy Director General (Education) Research and Extension Council, ICAR New Delhi Dr N.S. Rathore gave a discourse on ‘Higher Education in Agriculture’ on the occasion.

Speaker Vidhan Sabha Dr Rajiv Bindal, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr Rajiv Saizal, MP Prof. Virender Kashyap, former Minister and MLA Col. Dhani Ram Shandil, Vice-Chancellor of Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University Palampur Dr Ashok Kumar Sarpal, faculty members of the University were present on the occasion among others.

News About Opening of Schools in Himachal From July 1 a Hoax: Edu Minister

Shimla-Schools in Himachal Pradesh are not opening from July 1, 2020, the Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj confirmed today in a statement.

He condemned the news reports published by some media on June 23 claiming that the government has decided to open the schools from July 1. He termed these reports as fake news. 

He said that the number of COVID-19 cases is rapidly rising in Himachal, and the Government would never put the health and lives of children at risk by taking such a decision. He also informed that the State Government is still waiting for the Centre’s guidelines regarding the opening of schools.

Regarding asking teachers to come to schools in July, no decision has been taken so far. The decision regarding the same could be taken in July, Bhardwaj confirmed.

He said that holidays in schools could be extended if the situation doesn’t normalize.

Further, District Police, Shimla, also confirmed that the news is just a rumor and that no such decision to open school have been taken so far.

UHF Nauni Admissions Open for Diploma in Fruit, Vegetable Processing & Bakery Products

Solan-Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni, has invited applications for its one-year Diploma in Fruit and Vegetable Processing and Bakery products for the academic session 2020-21. The diploma is run by the Department of Food Science and Technology of the university. The programme aims to train students to start their enterprises in the field of food processing and bakery items.

The minimum educational qualification for this diploma programme is Class 10+2 with at least 40 per cent with no age cap for admission. The last date of applying is 20th August. A total of 35 seats are available in the programme. Prospectus and application form can be downloaded from the university website (www.yspuniversity.ac.in)

The university charges a nominal fee of Rs 5,000, paid in two instalments, for the one-year programme. Besides, the programme has also been linked to the Skill Development Allowance scheme of the Government of Himachal Pradesh. Any person enrolled in the programme can also apply for this allowance.

The applicants need to attach copies of Class 10 and 12 detailed marks sheet, character certificate from the head of the school last attended or from a gazetted officer or concerned Gram Panchayat Pradhan, self-attested copy of reservation certificate(if applicable), bank draft (Rs 100 for general category and Rs 50 for SC/ST) along with the admission form. Application form along with other required documents must be sent by registered or speed post to the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Office of the Registrar, Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry, Nauni-Solan (HP)–173 230.

Applications can also be submitted by hand.

Metric, Class 12 Students Can Apply for Supplementary Exams Till July 21: HPBOSE

HP Board Supplementary exams 2020

Dharamshala-The regular students of Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) who have received compartment in annual examinations for metric and Class 12 conducted for the session 2019-20 can apply online for the supplementary examination to be held in August/September, informed Chairman, Suresh Kumar Soni on June 20, 2020.

Students can apply online starting from June 22 to July 21 with the fee. The Chairman said that no application would be accepted after July 21.  

On June 18, HPBOSE had declared the results for Class 12 examination in which a total of 86633 students had appeared in the exams, of which 65654 students passed it, and 9391 got compartment.

Earlier, on June 9, the Board had declared the result for Class 10 examinations The overall pass percentage was reported to be 68.11 per cent. A total of 1.04, 323 students had appeared this year, of which 70,571 passed it, and 5,617 got compartment.
