Viral Kullu Ration Depot Video Reaches HP Food & Civil Supply Deptt,  Probe Ordered

Video of kullu Ration Depot

Kullu-A video of a government ration depot in Bhuntar of Kullu district showing stale and hardened wheat flour being distributed to the people had gone viral on social media. The video has also reached the Himachal Pradesh Food & Civil Supply Department. Considering the serious allegations labelled by one Jeevan Kumar in the video, the department has ordered a probe into the matter.

In the video, Jeevan can be heard saying that he had collected a sack of wheat flour from a government ration depot in Khodaage village in Garsa. However, he alleged, on opening the sack, he found that the flour was spoilt, had fungus on it, and was hardened after getting wet. Despite that, the flour was distributed to people, which is a joke with the health of the poor people who depend on the ration provided through these depots.

In the video, “HP Govt Supplies on Subsidized Atta” and “HP Public Distribution System” can be seen printed on the 40 kg wheat sack.

The complainant is alleging that he belongs to a poor family and earns only Rs 200-250 per day as  a daily wager. Jeevan said he, and several others like him, can’t afford buying ration from other shops so they wait for the supply from the depot. Still, we are being supplied spoilt flour.

He raised questions over the state government’s claim of eradicating poverty. Instead, Jeevan said, it appears the government is trying to eliminate the poor. He alleged that this was not the first time that he was given such supplies. Earlier, on two occasions, he received supplies that contained sand.

Jeevan said when he complained it to the depot operator, he was told that the government is responsible for it. He is not supplying this ration from his home, the operator replied to Jeevan’s complaint.

Jeevan said he is not alone who is receiving such supplies. There are several others like him who belong to poor families and depend on supply from depots. He is urging the people to circulate the video on social media so that it could reach the government and expose the working of the department.

District Food Controller Purushotam Singh confirmed watching the video and said an investigation is underway. He said action would be taken against anyone who would be found responsible for it.

However, during the initial investigation, the depot operator denied that Jeevan was given wheat flour. He said Jeevan had taken wheat and not flour.

The team investigating the case is in dilemma whether the allegations labelled by Jeevan were true or not. The team had reportedly planned to take samples of flour from the depot, however, it couldn’t as the flour was out of stock.

The validity of the charges labelled by Jevaan against the department can only be confirmed after the completion of the investigation.
