Doon MLA ‘confesses’ to role in Jyoti murder
The newly-elected Congress MLA from Himachal Pradesh’s Doon constituency, Ram Kumar Chaudhary, has confessed to his role in the murder of 24-year-old Hoshiarpur girl, Jyoti Kumari, the police said on Saturday. Currently in the custody of Panchkula police, the MLA, during interrogation, reportedly admitted to killing the girl with the help of his accomplices on November 22 as she had been blackmailing him. Investigations have reportedly revealed that money — ranging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 — was transferred into the girl’s bank account by the legislator, who evaded arrest for more than 45 days after the recovery of the girl’s body.
According to sources, the MLA reportedly told the police that he doesn’t know the whereabouts of his other accomplices. Sources said that it has been revealed that it was the Chaudhary’s driver, Sat Pal, who killed the girl.
Initial investigations have pointed out that the MLA had “sexually exploited” the girl, which later became the cause of blackmail and eventually led to her murder.
