Kinnuar JP Hydro-power protest: Massive protest from workers farmers for justice
KINNAUR- A massive rally was held in Tapri Headquarters of JP hydro power demanding that contractual workers of Jaypee’s Karcham Wangtoo Hydroelectric Project be regularized. The employees have been on strike for over a month. The other demands included that the mandatory provisions of labour laws be implemented, wages be paid on par with state-run hydropower major Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd and that the factory act should be implemented.
Thousands of people representing the workers under the banner of JP workers union Wangtoo Karcham elected Panchayat representatives of 18 Panchayats and political leaders across the political spectrum participated in this rally. To name main speakers of the rally was Rakesh Singh former MLA from Shimla, Sanjay Chauhan and Tikender Panwar the Mayor and deputy Mayor of Shimla respectively, Onkar Shad, the state secretary of CPIM, Umesh Neg, Kinnaur district president of Congress party, Surat Negi, former Zila Parishad chairperson and president of BJP, Jeevan Negi, President of the workers union , Sanjeev Negi Zila parishad memberof Nichar, Sonam Giacho vice president GP Urni, Bhagat Singh Negi a Kisan from Meeru and similarly over a dozen of Panchayat elected Pradhans of the area. This is unheard of in the history of Kinnaur where people through such a large cross section participated with a single voice to get justice from JP.
