Theog-Hatkoti-Rohru – apple belt lifeline – still in dust and mud, people wait for relief
The project for the upgrade of the 80 km Theog-Hatkoti-Rohru road, the lifeline for the apple belt has been in a limbo for the past many years. Govt.has spend thousands of crores on it. They received grants from world bank regarding the same. The contract had been given to the Chinese firm in 2007 for Rs 226 crore, almost Rs 80 crore less than the firm which made the second lowest bid. This firm, Longjian Road and Bridge Company Limited—was accused of cost over-runs and was also pulled up by the high court. Nothing has improved even after the Wold Bank has funded it a couple of years ago. Apple growers are facing huge losses due to it.
