KULLU-Police on Tuesday arrested a juvenile who helped the other accused in the gang-rape of 25-year-old Israeli woman on Sunday. Kullu police had arrested the two main accused in the case on Monday.
On the other hand, the victim had to go through additional trauma as she was made to visit several hospitals for a medical check-up to confirm rape. The woman was first taken to community health centre, Manali, and then to Kullu.
Later, she was moved to Mandi and then Sundernagar. As both Kullu and Mandi districts have no gynecologists, the woman was finally taken to Bilaspur for a medical examination.
On Tuesday, Inspector general police, central range, Ajay Kumar Yadav said the third arrested accused was a juvenile and investigation would be done accordingly.
“A third person has been arrested (in the case). The remaining three accused will be arrested soon. The two main accused, who raped the woman, have been arrested. Four others had helped in commission of the crime. CCTV camera footage helped police trace the Maruti Alto (HP34B0786) used in crime and nab the criminals,” he informed further.
As per reports two of the three accused who are still at large could also be juveniles as police investigation so far has indicated.
“It is shameful that such a heinous crime is committed with a tourist from abroad. Police shall work on a plan to ensure that such incidents do not happen in future,” Yadav said.
Police said that the charge sheet of the case will be prepared soon and produced before the court as it involved a foreign national.
Sources said that Himachal government was under constant pressure from Israel embassy and Himachal chief minister Virbhadra Singh had directed the state police to take up the matter urgently.
