Ahead of HP Assembly Polls 2017, Govt. ready to pat its own back via special publicity campaign

HP Congress Publicity Camapign

SHIMLA-  Ahead of HP Assembly Polls 2017, Himachal Pradesh Government has geared up to pat its own back through a special publicity campaign on completion of four years.  The newspapers, social and electronic media would be stuffed with positive stories about how considerate and attentive the government and its ministers had been towards the people of Himachal.  Government claims the campaign would educate people regarding various policies introduced by the Congress government during last four years so that they could avail their benefits.

The public relations department will  spent a lot of public tax money on multimedia vans equipped with public address system, LED TV, publicity literature, regular press conferences etc. to advertise policies and programmes of the State Government upto grass root level.

Recently, Director Information and Public Relations, RS Negi directed all district public relation officers to prepare road map for the route of the Publicity van for maximum reach and impact.

While most of the government websites including that of the official Public Relation Department don’t even bother to share enough information are now asked  to adopt proactive approach to sing songs in praise of the Government in so called right perspective. Officials, who were earlier avoiding social media, are told to lay emphasis on social media use.  The officers were also directed to hold regular press conference and make friends be with journalists. For this purpose, a special review meeting of the senior officers and District Public Relations Officers of Information and Public Relations Department was held recently.

Currently, in the changing media landscape, the PR professionals aren’t up to date with communication skills, which is why they aren’t able to to catch-up with the changing trends.

All the Officers of the Department  would constantly monitor news and views appearing in the media to sort out negative news and provide sufficient positive stories to the media to meet its demand. In nutshell, this is the season (like apple season) that major media houses await right before assembly elections.

The PR department will also target rural population by using traditional folk media troupes and Song and Drama units to regularly perform in rural areas of the State to enchant (so claimed) achievements.
