108 bike ambulance in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Government today launched 108 Bike Ambulance Service, also known as the First Response Bike, under PPP mode by the GVK, EMRI. Two bikes were flagged-off from Vidhan Sabha by the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. The government called it the first phase and assured expansion of the service to rest of the State.

After Tamilnadu, Karnataka, and Goa, Himachal is the fourth state in India and first in Northern India to launch this service.

The service was launched keeping in view the geographical conditions of the State, said the government.  Many times, it became difficult for 108 Ambulance service to reach the spot due to traffic congestion in Shimla town or due to non-availability of proper ambulance roads.

The bike ambulance service will supplement the already functional 108 National Ambulance Service.

It will lead to the betterment of the existing 108 Ambulance Services to the patients and accident victims.

The Ambulance will be equipped with, first aid kit such as medical equipment etc. On receiving a call on 108 in Shimla city, the Emergency Response Officer (ERO) will ascertain whether it will be appropriate to send an Ambulance or a Bike ambulance. The decision will depend on the seriousness of the patients as well as the topography of the concerned area.

Later, if required, the regular 108 Ambulance will be called in.

The state government claimed that a delay in shifting the Covid patients in home isolation to hospitals was one of the major cause of fatality in Himachal Pradesh.

The government said that though a large number of people are recovering from the disease, many people are reporting a wide variety of signs and symptoms including fatigue, body aches, cough, sore throat, difficulty in breathing, etc during the recovery period. As of now, there is limited evidence of post-Covid complications, the government claimed.

Patients recovering have been strongly advised to continue Covid appropriate behaviour such as the use of mask, hand & respiratory hygiene, physical distancing, drink an adequate amount of warm water, take immunity booster medicines. Such persons were also advised to practice yogasana, pranayam, meditation and breathing exercises daily.

They must go for morning or evening walk, follow a balanced nutritious diet, have adequate sleep and rest, and avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol, the statement said. In case of persistent dry cough / sore throat, saline gargles and steam inhalation were suggested.
