Minimum fare is likely to be increased to Rs.5
Under pressure ever since the hike in diesel prices, the Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) one of the largest corporation of the State which runs public transport service, is mulling to increase the minimum fares soon.
The increase in fares was hinted at by the State transport minister GS Balli who conceded that HRTC was in very bad shape and things need to be set in order. “We are under intense pressure and there is inevitable hike in diesel prices which is increasing pressure on the corporation,” said Balli.
He, however, maintained that though basic fare will not be touched but the minimum fare which is Rs 2 at the moment will be increased. “In Rs 2 nothing comes in today’s time and HRTC was providing transport service to the people,” said Balli.
Sources said that the minimum fare is likely to be increased to Rs. 5 which could help the loss making corporation to gain some strength. Balli said that additional options for generating the revenues will be made to better the health of the institution.
