Fresh spell of snow cheers up Shimla after long dry spell – In Pictures
SHIMLA- After a long wait Shimla finally received a good spell of snowfall for a while that revived tourist activity in the capital. The mercury dropped sharply on Sunday but rose on Monday to 8 degree Celsius.
Fresh spell of rain and snow also cheered up farmers, who were earlier worried about Rabi crops.
While Narkanda, Fagu, Kufri etc. received over 15 cm of snow, Shimla city could only get a humble share, most of which melted away by evening. That’s the irony of urban Shimla. The pattern has changed drastically. A couple of decades ago, snowfall would bring all activity to halt for weeks. It would take a month or more for the snow to completely disappear.
Unfortunately, it’s the result of excess tempering with forest cover and rising emissions, which is likely to increase in future. So far, the government has not given much thought to deteriorating conditions. Vehicular emission and emission from burning garbage continue to increase in the city.
Nevertheless, something is better than nothing and it suites well in case of Shimla city. Also, the Met department has issued forecast for more snow and rain during next few days. The snowfall did attract tourists and rejoiced taxi unions and people employed in hospitality industry, who were badly hit due to low tourist flux due to delayed snowfall.
Hopefully, Shimla would receive more snowfall during next week. For now, we have some wonderful images of Shimla covered in snow. We hope, you’ll love them.
