4 more arrested in forest guard Hoshiyar Singh death row
Mandi: Police made four more arrests on August 20, 2017, in relation to the mysterious death of forest guard Hoshiyar Singh in Seri-Katanda beat of Karsog Tehsil in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh.
Police booked all four persons under Section 379 IPC and 32, 33 of India Forest Act. Six people are already behind the bars in the case.
The arrests were made based on the photographs recovered from Hoshiyar’s mobile phone. The photos showed some people carrying out illegal felling of trees. The police was looking for these people after they were identified from these photographs. According to the police, these people were absconding for a long time.
The arrested men were identified as Chandra Mani (31), Desh Raj (36), Bhavneesh (22), and Hemraj (41). All accused are residents of village Shilli in Karsog Tehsil. The accused were to be produced in the court and will question later.
Previous arrests were also made on the basis of pieces of evidence found in the diary of the deceased guard. The guard was missing from June 5, 2017. On June 10, his body was found hanging upside down from a tree in a forest.
Protests had erupted among the locals who claimed it to be a murder by forest mafia. Both Police and CID conducted separate probes into the case. both probes said it to be a suicide.
The people expressed disbelief on the local police and demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Himachal Pradesh High Court also raised serious questions over the police probe and said several links are missing. The police was not able to explain some crucial facts related to the case. Police failed to establish the exact time and day of the death.
The probe report did not establish whether the poison was self-administered or the guard was forced to consume it.
The court had asked the police to explain why the case should not be given to CBI.
