HRTC services via Chandigarh suspended or given alternative route ahead of Gurmeet rape case verdict
Shimla: The Transport Minister of Himachal Pradesh, GS Bali, today informed that ahead of the hearing in the Gurmeet Ram Rahim case in Panchkula Court on August 25, the HRTC bus services were either suspended or given alternate routes.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been accused of raping a follower multiple times inside the complex of the sect based in Sirsa, Haryana. The verdict in the case is expected to be read on August 5.
Bali said Section-144 has been imposed in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali. The government fears violence by followers of the self-proclaimed godman in case the verdict goes against him. As per reports, about two lakh followers have already reached Panchkula and camping outside the court.
In view of possible violence, the Haryana and Punjab Roadways have suspended all services on all Chandigarh routes for next 72 hours. The idea is to prevent more followers reaching Chandigarh.
The HRTC bus services were also hit as it announced changes in schedule. The HRTC buses from Delhi to Himachal via Chandigarh will be cancelled or will follow alternate routes.
The buses from Shimla to Chandigarh will terminate their journey at Parwanoo. Services from Una and Bilaspur will end their journey at Chandigarh-43 ISBT, but routes can be suspended depending on situation.
HRTC buses on Chandigarh to Nahan-Dehradoon line have been cancelled. Similarly, bus service from Himachal to Delhi will be cancelled or will be given alternate routes.
