Himachal exports over 1.15 crore apple boxes, procures 11,629 metric tonnes under MIS

Shimla: This season, Himachal Pradesh has so far exported Over 1.15 crores boxes of apples to major markets in the country.

As per the HP Horticulture Department, the Royal Delicious A quality medium grade was sold for Rs.780 per box of 20 kg capacity, Red Delicious for Rs.600 and Golden Delicious for Rs.470 per box.

HPMC and HIMFED have procured 11,629 metric tonnes of apple under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS).

In the previous year, Himachal had exported more than 1.95 crore apple boxes and procured 15,255 metric tonnes under MIS by October 2016.

Along with usual poor condition of roads in the apple belt, this year agitations over the gang-rape and murder of a minor in Kotkhai, landslides, and rioting in Panchkula had also hit the apple growers.

During riots in Panchkula over the sentencing of Ram Rahim on August 25, chief of Dera Sacha Sauda, apple trucks remained stuck in Himachal for two days as entire traffic was brought to halt. The apple growers had sustained considerable loss during these days.
