In the previous year, Himachal had exported more than 1.95 crore apple boxes and procured 15,255 metric tonnes under MIS by October 2016.
Along with usual poor condition of roads in the apple belt, this year agitations over the gang-rape and murder of a minor in Kotkhai, landslides, and rioting in Panchkula had also hit the apple growers.
During riots in Panchkula over the sentencing of Ram Rahim on August 25, chief of Dera Sacha Sauda, apple trucks remained stuck in Himachal for two days as entire traffic was brought to halt. The apple growers had sustained considerable loss during these days.
