Shimla policemen caught taking joyride on a duty bike, publicly mocking at traffic rules (Video)
Is Shimla Police above the law? The capacity and leadership qualities of respected SP Shimla Police DW Negi are reflecting through the behavior of cops under his command. We are afraid that law and order is going to be disrupted if policemen continued taking undue advantages of power vested in their uniform.
SHIMLA- Yesterday evening, two policemen were seen riding on a police bike near the Victory Tunnel in Shimla city without wearing helmets. These bikes are given to cops for duty. Another traffic cop was on duty at the Victory Tunnel. However, this cop also supported his fraternity and didn’t perform his duty. Rather, the policemen on bike drove to him, and after a warm handshake they enjoyed a good chat in the middle of the road. They had no fear of law or anyone.
They were confident enough to insult rules and regulations publicly.
It’s not a sin not to wear a helmet. Is it? If not, then stop forcing laws on common people only, or better behave and be accountable. Everytime cops are seen ridiculing rules, onlookers feel suffocated because they would have been punished for the same, while no one would dare set accountability of police regarding the same.
We are afraid that law and order is going to be disrupted if policemen continued taking undue advantages of power vested in their uniform. Their mockery of rules and directions of the Supreme Court regarding compulsion of wearing helmet while riding two-wheeler will definitely encourage other people to do the same.
According to Chapter 7, Section 129 of the Indian Motor Vehicle Act (1988, wearing a headgear is compulsory for every two-wheel rider.
Shimla traffic police is quite tough on common people regarding wearing helmet while riding. Moreover, now wearing helmet has been made compulsory for both the rider and the one on the pillion. That’s a good step; to be rough and tough against violators of such rules which are meant to ensure their safety.
But did you notice degradation of discipline among policemen in Shimla from past some years. This video clip is evidence that no one cares for laws, not even the police.
The capacity and leadership qualities of respected SP Shimla Police DW Negi are reflecting through the behavior of cops under his command.
A couple of weeks ago, two policemen were caught breaking into a private hotel in Shimla and trashing staff for not providing them disposable cups around sometime after midnight. They had no idea about the CCTV installed at reception. When they realized it, then, they offered Rs. 10, 000 to the hotel staff as compensation or bribe to be silent. That didn’t happen. The staff didn’t accept the bribe, but asked for justice. Next day, many hotels were raided with an urgency and intensity of emergency situation. Many of them were fined and documents of many were ceased for irregularities.
Perhaps, it was a co-incident that this aggressive raid came just after a day the ‘Gundagardi’ of police was captured on a CCTV.
Then, we had this Shimla cop who didn’t just violate a traffic rule, but also put the life of other citizen at risk to save him from being caught.
We all know how brutal and insensitive Shimla police grew against HPU student who were protesting against many critical issues related to standards and irregularities in HPU administration. The HPU girl, who was publicly harassed, abused and beaten by police goons at HPU, is still wandering for justice, but all she received were manipulation of facts to save higher police officers.
There are many other incidents that can be sighted to highlight lack of indiscipline in policemen.
HW is forwarding this video clip with all details to Shimla Traffic Police DSP and the SP expecting immediate action against these erring cops who evaded traffic laws. Law is equal for all irrespective of their position, wealth, influence or uniform.
Further, we expect some action and briefing of policemen to avoid such blunders.
