Haryana policeman opens fire at toll worker in Himachal, flees after smashing CCTV and hard disk
BILASPUR- In a shocking incident, five policemen of Haryana Crime Branch shot a worker at a toll barrier in Bilaspur district, Himachal Pradesh, with a service revolver after an altercation over toll fee of mere Rs. 40. Punjab and Himachal Police have jointly nabbed three of the accused while two others including the head-constable who had opened fire, are on the run.
The incident was reported at the Garamauda toll barrier in Swarghat on Chandigarh-Manali National Highway at 6:30 AM on Friday.
As per report, five policemen of Haryana Crime Branch heading towards Manali in a Safari (HR-26CN 2204) tried to cross the barrier without paying the fee. When the worker put up the barrier, the accused allegedly abused him which led to an altercation between two parties. In between, a head constable shot the victim with his service revolver. The bullet hit the victim on his hip and he started bleeding. When other toll workers tried to approach the injured for help, the policemen pointed their three service revolvers and a rifle on them. The accused smashed the CCTV and hard disk in effort to erase evidence. The accused then abandoned their vehicle and fled the scene.
Locals were enraged as they received this news. Locals spotted three of the accused in a nearby nullah. Enraged villagers thrashed all three on the spot. However, police interfered and rescued the three accused. Pujab Police had also reached the place of incident by the time three of the accused were arrested by the local police.
The injured man was rushed to Nalagarh hospital from where he was referred to PGI, Chandigarh. Bilaspur Police has booked the accused under IPC Section 308, 34, and Indian Arms Act, informed the Superintendent Police, Bilaspur.
