Tragic: 5-storey building collapses in Hatkoti, Shimla, about 20 buried, many feared dead

SHIMLA- In a tragic incident, a five-storey building near Hatkoti (Kainchi) in Shimla collapsed suddenly on Wednesday afternoon. The building housed many shops including a chemist shop, a hardware store and a bar and about 15-20 people are said to have been buried under it. The SP Shimla DW Negi confirmed the news and said rescue operation has begun to find victims buried under debris.


According to the eyewitnesses, the building collapsed like a pack of cards. Some cars parked at the entrance of the building were either damaged or buried under debris.

However, the exact number of casualties is not known yet. Some of the victims buried under debris called via cellphone and informed that they are alive and require urgent help, said a source. Initial reports said that the building was owned by Mr. Chanjta, Saraswati Nagar Panchayat Pradhan.


The rescue operation is being carried out with the help of local people, but heavy rain in the region is hampering it. The injured have been sent to Rohru hospital. The reason for the collapse is not certain yet and more details are awaited.
