Kotkhai CBI Probe: SIT files status report, seeks more time

Shimla– Today the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted the status report in the ongoing probe into the rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl in Kotkhai Tehsil of Shimla district, to the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
The CBI SIT sought more time to complete the investigation. The SIT sought three more months to complete the probe, which was denied by the court. The division bench comprising of acting Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Sandeep Sharma gave only two more weeks to the CBI SIT to submit complete status report and listed the matter for August 17.
As per the report, as the status report was incomplete despite the end of the deadline, the court did not disclose the findings of the report submitted by the SIT.
CBI close to unfolding mystery behind death of Nepalese accused?
Meanwhile, sources reported a breakthrough in the killing of the Nepalese accused Suraj in the police custody. On the night of his death, said a report, Suraj was taken to a separate room by a policeman and was allegedly given third-degree torture. As per the report, the SIT has come to know that Suraj was later left in the lockup after a policeman brought him out dragging. By morning, said the report, Suraj was dead.
Another report said the SIT had detained three more suspects for questioning. However, the news was not officially confirmed by the SIT, it said.
Earlier, the SIT had questioned a renowned agriculturist (apple grower) of the area, Anant Ram. The accused Raju and Suraj were employed in his orchards.
While the SIT has not disclosed any information regarding the probe, some media sources are suggesting that the agency has got hold of some additional pieces of evidence in the case.
The SIT is waiting for the reports of forensic tests and the post-mortem report of Suraj’s body.
