Kotkhai CBI Probe: IGP Zaidi, other arrested policemen taken to Delhi for ‘narco-analysis interrogation’
Shimla: Political parties are now demanding removal of the Director General of Police after Central Bureau of Investigation on August 29 arrested eight officials of the Himachal Pradesh Police including the Inspector General of Police, Zahur H Zaidi, and Manoj Joshi, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Theog, in relation to the custodial death of one of the Nepalese accused Suraj Singh.
As per reports, after spending a night at the Boileauganj Police Station, these accused were on August 30 taken to Delhi for further interrogation. Though CBI has not made any official comments, the sources said all arrested officials would be subjected to Narco analysis test .
The court has sent all the arrested accused to police remand till September 4. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for September 6. After these arrests, people are expecting the revelation of the truth behind the rape and murder of the minor girl in the next hearing.
However, CBI has not confirmed much about the status of progress in the ongoing investigation into the gangrape and murder of a Class X student in Kotkhai region of Shimla district.
The agency confirmed that these arrests were made in the second case filed by CBI relating to the killing of Suraj in police custody on the night of July 18.
However, people are desperate to know whether the local police has arrested actual culprits or just framed some poor laborers to shield the real ones.
The CBI appears to have got its hands on solid evidences, and it suggested these police officials had a role in the custodial death of Suraj. If proved guilty, tt would be a big blot on the image of the State Police.
If Raju did not kill Suraj, then who did?
If Suraj was not killed by Raju, then who else could have done it in police custody?
On the night of his death, said a report, Suraj was taken to a separate room by the Station House Office (SHO) and allegedly given third-degree torture.
As per the report, the CBI came to know that Suraj was later left in the lockup after a policeman brought him out dragging. By morning, said the report, Suraj was dead.
The IGP, who was heading the HP Police Special Investigation Team, and DIG Somesh Goyal, in a press conference held on July 13, had claimed all culprits were arrested and confessed their crime.
The SIT had claimed it possessed clinching technical, clinical, circumstantial, and physical evidences to establish the guilt of all six accused in the court.
If all accused had confessed their crime and police had clinching evidences against them, then what was the purpose of subjecting Suraj to third degree?
As per local police, Suraj was killed by the main accused Raju inside the lockup at Police Station, Kotkhai. The SP, Shimla, DW Negi, had also supported this theory. The police report alleged that Raju hit Suraj hard in his private parts and then smashed his head on the floor or the wall.
However, CBI had re-examined the body and conducted a fresh autopsy of Suraj’s body.
Key Role of Sentry’s Statement
Contrary to his previous statement, the Sentry, Dinesh Sharma, who was on duty the night Suraj was killed, reportedly gave CBI a different statement. Dinesh had told CBI that he was on three-hour duty that night and Raju and Suraj were in the same lockup.
However, Dinesh said he did not see Raju killing Suraj during his duty hours. As per media reports, Dinesh told CBI that Suraj was taken to separate place by the SHO.
When the CBI inquired Dinesh why he had given a different statement previously, he told the agency that his signature was taken on a pre-recorded statement.
Another big development in the probe was that the Sentry was provided with police security as the CBI feared a threat to his life. It clearly suggested that the Sentry had given the CBI some crucial facts.
CBI had also seized all mobile phones of several police officials in relation to the custodial death. It’s being speculated that the call details have also provided CBI with some pieces of evidence that suggested a role of police in the killing of Suraj.
Now, by interrogating the arrested officials, the CBI expects to unravel more mysteries regarding the entire episode since the formation of the police SIT on July 9.
Other than questions over the custodial death, following key questions were raised over SIT Report by media and people after SIT probe:
- Who were the 4 persons, the photos of whom were posted by Chief Minister as suspects?
- What about previous theory cited by SIT?
- Ashish Chauhan was first to be arrested, then why police didn’t reveal how he was related to the crime?
- If Nepalese were involved, then why they left the body near their own settlement? Why didn’t they flee from the village?
- People questioned the possibility that anyone would try to rape and murder a victim just 100 meters from road in broad daylight
- Why animals didn’t eat up or mauled the body in two days?
Public and media were already concluding all these arguments as an intentional effort by SIT to save the real culprits.
